Charlie Chaplin: My Style Icon

Image
By Elma B. I have always been a huge fan of the the Charlie Chaplin era, particularly the style from his iconic films  The Tramp (1915) and The Modern Times (1936). The legendary films were dominated by wide legged pants and bowler hats. I added my own modern twist to the look by including these wide legged overalls with polkadots; white sneakers, all the rage this season; and a simple white tank top. (Outfit details below...) My Style Inspiration: Charlie Chaplin While the classics, like the Charlie Chaplin films, remain a definite influence and an inspiration on my style choices, I always throw-in the everyday modern pieces. Who inspires your everyday style? Leave a comment below, I love hearing from you! Until next time, xoxo from the Upper West Side of Manhattan!

5 Wardrobe Tips for Winter to Spring Transition

Image
By Elma B. Recently, it came to my attention that it can be difficult to dress for the spring transitioning period because while wanting to shed the winter layers and adopt the spring colors, you still want to keep cozy and warm. Thus, I wanted to provide you with 5 wardrobe tips for winter to spring transition. 5 Wardrobe Tips for Winter to Spring Transition    1. Oversized knitted sweaters . XL tops have been the "it" wardrobe pieces for a while; they are comfortable and communicate to the outside world your "carefree" spirit. I would highly recommend the knits in the spring to keep you warm, comfortable and current with the warm seasons.  2. Leggings . Leggings seem to be another timeless piece that you can transition from one season to another. Pick your favorite pair of leggings and pair them with an oversized top. I choose these camel colored leggings, which I could easily transition into the fall period with a pair of cool fringe booties.  3. Sandals . To com...

Bowler Hat

Image
Amra B.  I am a big believer that a hat can make even the dullest outfit instantly more interesting. I own many hats and usually like to wear the floppy bohemian kind; however, I feel that this recently purchased bowler hat is a great (fresh) approach to my otherwise constant choice of bohemian accessories.   I paired up my bowler hat with a patterned dress and a leather jacket (one of my favorite spring pieces). I topped the look off with a wedged suede boots and a black bowler bag (an appropriate match for my choice of hat, or so I thought).  Wishing you a wonderful day. Outfit: Zara dress, Mango jacket, boots Stuart Weitzman, bag Tods, hat H&M

Spring 2015 Fashion Trends: Boho Care-Free

Image
By Elma B. As a sequel to my previous post on style tips for the music festival season , this look was also inspired by the bohemian and care-free vibes. I wore a gold dress (inspired by...  My Daily Dose of Inspiration:  Sophia Loren in the 1950s romantic comedy  Houseboat ) from H&M; a floppy black hat and fringe black vest from TopShop; sunglasses from Urban Outfitters; wooden Chloe sandals; and the now iconic Chanel boybag.  To blend the bohemian care-free vibes with the mood of New York City, the shoot was done on top of a rooftop in the Upper West Side. Where does your daily style inspiration come from? I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did the shoot. With all my love, xoxo!

Street Style Tips for Coachella 2015

Image
By Elma B. Although I have never been to Coachella, I have been observing over the years the fun, flirty and illustrious street style of many of the festival's music goers. I even saw that the style in many high street shops was inspired by Coachella. Thus, as the festival fast approaches, I wanted to share my style tips for this fun and bohemian music festival.  Style Tips for Coachella 2015 Me: Outfit Inspired by Coachella  Shagadelic '70s Firstly, I would definitely recommend steering your entire look in the direction of the happy-go-lucky hippie '70s. As luck would have it, the '70s have made a total come back this spring. Hence, it will be really easy to shop for the hippy-happy-go-lucky look. I wore the chunky 1970s inspired booties by Viktor and Rolf.   Bohemian Flower Children  Secondly, anything bohemian is completely appropriate for Coachella. I wore a partly sheer black laced jumpsuit from H&M. I think this piece will go a long way even after...

Ripped Jeans

Image
By Amra B.  Spring has finally arrived to NYC, or so it seems, and I am finally able to shed all the layers and enjoy the feeling of a simple combination of jeans and a cotton shirt. One of my favorite spring pieces is the ripped cotton jean; I wear them most often probably due to their power to make me look and feel great at the same time (rare occurrence in the fashion world indeed).   I combined my ripped jeans with an off shoulder cotton-long-sleeve shirt and simple black pumps. Although, I love dressing up jeans with pumps or high-heel booties, I feel that they look equally great with just plain white espadrilles or sneakers. I also love how I can take this look from day to night by just adding a black blazer (and a velvet black tank when I really want to feel fancy). I topped the look with a pale blue hat and the new boy bag I recently picked up; although I have always been a “shoe girl”, I must admit that this little purse has changed me into a “bag lady” for the time b...
