Nurturing Your Core--Beauty from Within

Image
By Elma B. Much of the outside is a mere reflection of what is on the inside. For this precise reason, I am a strong advocate of taking ardent care of your inner core. Your inner core consists of your basic beliefs and attitude about life. It is what sets your daily routine, e.g., sleep-in for an extra hour or get-up and go to that early morning spin class, or eat a banana in the morning or much on those doughnuts. Here is what to change for a healthier mind, body and spirit... Your Daily Routine--Make a Decision  Me Body & Health It is those underlying beliefs that reflect on what is on the outside. If you are overweight and flabby, chances are you don't have strong beliefs about what you consume on a daily basis nor do you have the strong will to make it to the gym everyday. I have personally made the decision to be very picky about what I consume on a daily basis and to be adamant about making it to the gym everyday. I still have ways to go until figuring out ...

Life is About the Journey, Not the Destination

Image
By Elma B. We (myself very much included) get caught-up living for the future rather than enjoying the everyday. Recently, I was listening to an interview with Elon Musk  (founder of Tesla and SpaceX), and he said that entrepreneurship is not about the destination but the everyday journey. I would say that no matter what your goal in life, it's about enjoying the process of getting there and not about the gratification upon arriving to the final destination.  Me For me, my team is building an exciting platform for bloggers and blog readers (stay tune for more), so I must be inspired and upbeat every step of the way. It's that end of the day fun and social activity that recharges my batteries.  Some of my tips to inspire yourself everyday: Meet   inspiring people   every week.   Fun fitness classes . Try new and fun fitness classes/fitness routine, e.g., checkout a barre or a kickboxing class.  Discover new restaurants . Discover new authentic restauran...

Faux Fur Vest

Image
By Amra B.  A faux fur vest has been staple piece since the seventies, but it was Sienna Miller and Rachel Zoe who made them popular again with fashionistas today. They are practical, chic, warm, and easy to combine with almost everything.  Below are some tips on how to wear a faux fur vest:  Layer it with a thin jacket or a sweater: keep the bulk away by pairing your faux fur vest with a thin jacket or a sweater.  Dress it up with a skirt: I love wearing a long sleeve dress or a skirt underneath my faux fur vest. I like to balance out the casual feel of the vest with a dress and some high heels.  Add a pair of skinny jeans: for a perfect weekend look, add a pair of ripped skinny jeans and sneakers. I also love to wear bell-bottoms with my faux fur vest for a total seventies-boho-chic look.  Faux fur vest with skinny jeans  Make it vegan: all my fur vests are made of faux fur and I am a big advocate of wearing animal friendly brands. Did you know that ...

How to Get the Chic Comfort Look

Image
By Fatima N. Winter has returned, along with the struggle of staying cozy while at the same time looking put together. One without the other just isn't going to cut it. Here are seven pieces that assure the everyday chic comfort look. 1) Blanket Scarves Scarves have the amazing ability of transforming an outfit. In the winter, it also helps you stay warm. The monogrammed Burberry one would be nice, but there are many alternatives. Bunch it around your neck or wear it like a blanket. They are so effortless and easy to style.    3) Maxi Skirt Tis the season for holiday parties. Rather then exhaust your pile of body cons and other above the knee cocktail dresses, pair a sweater with a maxi skirt. You'll be the most elegant one in the room and probably the most toasty. 4) Robe Ok, you can't wear your robe outside, but here's the next best thing, a wrap coat! Its basi...

Many of the models were sporting th...

Factory Girl: 1960s Inspired Fashion

Image
By Fatima N. Factory Girl : 1960s   Inspired Fashion In the 60s, we witnessed the rise and fall of what we can call The Edie Empire. Edie was a model, heiress, an actress in Andy Warhol's underground studio, "The Factory" and one of the first "It Girls". Her time was short in the “It Girl” spotlight, but as John Galliano said,”She may have had 15 minutes of fame, but her fashion style and image influenced a whole generation.” The 60s were a time of Vidal Sassoon hair cuts and Mary Quant minis. Edie Sedgewick contributed to 1960s fashion as well, with her chandelier earrings, kohl rimmed eyes and blonde pixie crop... Edie Sedgewick with Andy Warhol  In 2006, a biopic starring Sienna Miller was made about Edie. The movie showed her 60's style. One of Sienna Miller's outfits, the one with the leopard coat, showed how Edie liked to wear vintage style clothes with younger pieces. Edie Sedgewick was actually one of the first people to do this.
